The Astronomy Adventures Camp for Kids February 19, 2009

The Astronomy Adventures Camp for Kids in grades 3 through 6 will take place on Thursdays January 29, and February 5, 12, and 19 from 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Children will learn how to navigate the night sky to find constellations and other sky objects with the use of star charts. We will explore why the Moon looks different each night and answer the question: is the Moon really made of cheese? The history of space discovery from the first telescopes to the most high-tech space shuttle will be investigated. Children will also learn about the biggest storm in the solar system and whether life can survive on other planets.

The Astronomy Adventures Space Camp will keep children actively involved in learning about the wonders of space. Best of all, they can bring home what they learn and explore in their own backyard! This camp program will be held at the Hiram College Field Station and is coordinated and taught by Matt Sorrick, director of the Center for Science Education, and Hiram College students. Children must dress appropriately for the weather as we will be outdoors hiking and observing each and every evening. Snacks will be provided. The camp will cost $20 for non-members, $12 for members of the Friends of the Field Station and faculty and staff.
