Amoeba Music is proud to present The Afrofunk Experience as part of the Berkeley World Music Festival! The San Francisco-based group is at the vanguard of Afro-funk. Winner’s of the SF Weekly Music Awards' Best International Act, they have been the high energy band behind Sila and the Afrofunk Experience for the past seven years. The Afrofunk Experience offers tastes of Nigerian Afro-beat, R&B, Hip-Hop, rock, reggae, and more...but the bottom line is their own original homegrown Funk.

Other than new vocalist and lyricist Sandy Tili and percussionist Brandon Lee, the lineup is the same as always with everyone joining in on the singing. The AFE features trombonist Andre Webb, trumpeter Mike Pitre (Bohemian Knuckleboogie), saxophonist David Boyce (Broun Fellinis), bassist Wendell Rand (Pleasuremaker), drummer Paul Oliphant, and guitarists David James (Spearhead) and Ken House (Wade Love, H.P. Riot).

The AFE has performed at nearly every dance hall and festival in the Bay Area (from Café du Nord and the Fillmore to Outside Lands and Stern Grove) as well as major summer fests, including Sierra Nevada Music Festival. Along the way, they have picked up an array of awards for their soulful performances. The band’s album with Sila, Black President, was just named Outstanding World Music Album in the 2010 NAACP Image Awards.
