The 9th Annual Jeff Norsen Memorial Golf Tournament June 20, 2008

Over the past 8 years, the South Buffalo community has allowed the Jeff Norsen Memorial Golf Tournament to provide his family and friends with an annual opportunity to celebrate Jeff’s life and memory. The overwhelming support and turnout over the last eight years has allowed the committee to carry on Jeff’s legacy by providing necessary educational assistance to various young men throughout our community. Each year a scholarship has been given in Jeff’s name to financially assist a local student as he pursues his education at Bishop Timon St. Jude, Jeff’s alma mater.

In 2003 we felt it was important to expand our mission and give back to the community that has been so supportive of our event each year. With this in mind we, as a committee, decided to provide monetary donations to a number of worthwhile local charities. Over the past four years, the Norsen tournament has provided a $1000 charitable donation to each of the following local charities:

• South Buffalo Community Table – local soup kitchen that provides a hot meal to those in need.
• Harvest House – local charity that provides retreat space to over 120 teenage, adult and family groups per year
• The Franciscan Center – Local emergency and transitional shelter for adolescent males 16-20 years old that also provides youth counseling (both male & female) and family crisis intervention.
• First Tee Golf Program ($250) – urban golf program that makes golf accessible to underprivileged children

The success & growth of our tournament has allowed us to extend our arm to a wide range of programs throughout the community. We would like to continue these donations in 2008. However, we cannot make this possible without your help. On June 21st of this year, the Jeff Norsen Committee will host the 9th Annual Jeff Norsen Memorial Golf Tournament. This year’s event will be a four man 18 hole scramble tournament held at Chestnut Hill Country Club in Darien Center, NY. The committee will be sponsoring buses to and from the golf course. The tournament will be an 8:00 a.m. “shotgun” start with all buses departing the South Buffalo Irish Center at 7:00 a.m. The tournament will be followed by a benefit party at the Irish Center beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The tournament has raised nearly $80,000 over the past eight years and has provided financial support to numerous local students that have carried out Jeff’s legacy at Bishop Timon/St. Jude High School. We hope to add to Jeff’s legacy this year with another successful event.

We hope to make our 9th year our most successful endeavor to date. That said, we are looking for any contribution that would help ease the financial burden of our tournament. If you would like to sponsor an advertisement on one of the holes, we are requesting a $100 donation. We would appreciate any financial contribution or item that could be raffled off as prizes. Any contribution that can help alleviate our expense will simply add to the donation amount for those worthwhile charities in need.
