MOST DOG-FRIENDLY CITY IN THE U.S. HOSTS THE FIRST
MAJOR FILM FESTIVAL DEVOTED TO DOG MOVIES!

San Francisco, known as the most dog-friendly city in the U.S. thanks to its legions of pooch-friendly hotels, parks, and businesses, is about to become home to the first-ever major dog film festival. The 1st Annual Canine Film Festival, at the magnificent Castro Theatre, October 7-8, is a fun-filled, weekend-long benefit featuring some of the most beloved films – as well as some riveting newer films – starring dogs. All profits from the event benefit PAWS (Pets Are Wonderful Support).

KRON-TV’s Jan Wahl hosts an exciting gala Saturday evening reception and program featuring Fred Willard from the hilarious hit movie Best in Show. And on Sunday, join the fun as classic comedienne JoAnne Worley emcees a drag queen contest where some of San Francisco's most colorful characters will compete for the title of Queen of the Fest. (Donna Sachet helps her judge!) A screening of the live-action 101 Dalmatians follows the contest.

The two-day festival is packed with favorite canine films. From the teary (like Old Yeller; every audience member will receive a free packet of tissues) to the cheery (Best in Show, Wallace & Gromit and more), and from the old (Laurel & Hardy) to the new (The Cave of the Yellow Dog), there’s something for everyone.

“We left no bone unturned in sniffing out the best of canine cinema,” says festival producer Maria Goodavage.

Movie tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under. Gala reception is $75, and includes first choice of seating to the Best in Show screening following.

For a complete schedule and more information go to www.caninefilmfest.org.  Advance tickets are available at Ticketweb (www.ticketweb.com 866.468.3399). Same-day tickets are available at the Castro Theatre, 429 Castro Street.

The 1st Annual Canine Film Festival is presented by Wag Pet Hotels, and produced by Eye to Eye Entertainment, San Francisco.

PAWS is a volunteer-based organization that provides for the comprehensive needs of companion animals for low-income persons with HIV/AIDS and other disabling diseases.

Please note that as dog friendly as San Francisco is, theater policy prohibits dogs (except service dogs) from attending the event.
