Eleven Texas artists will exhibit eloquent, expressive drawn works at the Southwest School of Art’s biennial Texas Draws exhibition. Opening March 1 and running through April 29, the exhibition “reveals the power that a simple line, mark, or empty space can conjure, when employed by contemporary artists” says Kathy Armstrong, Director of Exhibitions at the art school.

San Antonio artists exhibiting in Texas Draws II are Stacy Berlfein, Judith Cottrell, and Alex Rubio. Other Texas artists invited to participate this year are: Daniel Adame, Houston; Anne Allen, Ft. Worth; Nathan Heuer, Victoria; Ian Ingram, Austin; Beili Liu, Austin; Rosemary Meza-DesPlas, Dallas; Terry Morrow, Lubbock; Gael Stack, Houston.

The March 1st public opening will include a chalkboard drawing that will emerge as it is performed by Houston video artist and dancer Daniel Adame, and will result in a piece entitled Marker Head Marker: Head piece for emitting recording energy in one line, 2012.
Other works will include new drawings by Judith Cottrell that evolve from animal x-rays and explore themes quite different from her recent spatial abstractions. Along with more traditional drawings, Austin artist Beili Liu will exhibit a sculpture which emulates the way a line works on a 2-dimensional surface, but moves gracefully, instead, through 3-D space. Rosemary Meza-DesPlas of Dallas will exhibit her provocative and beautiful body-oriented drawings spun from televised images of female aggression and violence. San Antonio artist and community arts mentor Alex Rubio returns to his drawing roots, and will exhibit two new large pen and ink pieces.
