Terrorism in the UK: Security, Freedom and the Rule of Law February 27, 2012

The next lecture in the 2011/12 Vice-Chancellor’s Lecture Series will be given by Andrew Hall QC. In his lecture entitled "Terrorism in the UK: Security, Freedom and the Rule of Law", Andrew will be examining the extent to which traditional legal principles have been abandoned in the "war on terror". The lecture will be held on Monday 27 February 2012 in the Council Chamber, The Old Fire Station commencing at 17.30 and is open to staff, students, alumni and supporters of the University.

About Andrew Hall

Andrew Hall is consistently named as a leader in his field and has a busy and high profile practice in serious crime. He is a member of the Crime Team at Doughty Street Chambers, a recent former Chairman of the Criminal Bar Association (2006-2007), and served for a number of years as a member of the Bar Council and Chairman of the Remuneration Committee. Andrew has very extensive experience in all types of homicide, large scale drugs and other excise conspiracies. In recent years has been instructed in a large number of high profile terrorism cases.

In 2010, Andrew was appointed to the approved List of Defence Counsel at the International Criminal Court in The Hague. He is the author or co-author of several books on criminal justice issues, a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Evidence and Proof, and regularly lectures on advocacy and other legal topics both here and abroad. He has longstanding involvement with professional training and with legal sector capacity building projects overseas, particularly in Africa, and is a winner of the Bar Pro Bono Award for this work.
