Chapel Hill, North Carolina

From 1939 to 1975, Blue Note Records recorded just about every trumpet player that mattered: Fats Navarro, Clifford Brown, Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Donald Byrd, Don Cherry ... It’s no coincidence that its current roster includes Grammy Award-winning Terence Blanchard, one of the most gifted trumpeter/composers since those halcyon days.

As well as leading a string of high profile bands of his own, Blanchard enjoys a successful career as a film composer, with soundtracks including Spike Lee’s Malcolm X, Summer of Sam, and Do the Right Thing.

This performance is part of the 33rd annual Carolina Jazz Festival.
