Teodross Avery, saxophonist and former GRP/Impulse Recording Artist, is re-entering the International stage as a bandleader to celebrate the release of his new album Bridging The Gap: Hip Hop Jazz Vol. I.. He has played with and/or recorded with Amy Winehouse, Leela James, Joss Stone, Mos Def, Pat Monehan (Train), and Lauryn Hill among many others.

According to Avery, “After working with such an eclectic group of artists, I’ve learned that there is a huge gap between popular music and jazz. My goal is to ‘Bridge the Gap’ and connect different generations in a way that keeps jazz hip, current and relevant to young people. I love playing behind soul singers such as Amy Winehouse and Leela James, but now it’s time for me to be a band leader again.”

Avery will perform on February 3, 2009 at Blues Alley for a one night only performance that will showcase not only his skills as a saxophonist, but also his versatility as a composer.
