TENUOUS DIVIDE:
A photographic series by Rachel Granofsky.

The craftsmanship of these pictures calls into question the tenuous divide between composing the picture in the camera frame and the post-production editing process, thus highlighting the transgressive potential of photography. The cohesive composition of each photograph unites the image depths of background and foreground to create the illusion of a flattened space, much like a photomontage. The drawn and painted elements aim to entice the viewer with the question of what is real versus what is represented. Although the effects of these photographic documents are achieved solely through the camera lens, the final prints blur the line between shooting and postproduction, challenging perceptions of the image’s fidelity to the real.
