Telecom Council Mobile Forum: Connected Car February 2, 2012

When major telecom players talk about M2M, the Internet of Things, and 50 billion connected devices by 2020, you'd better believe that cars are one of the hottest focus areas. Like phones, cars are very "personal devices", and they come with screen real estate, tremendous battery power, a captive audience...but also many safety constraints. Automobiles are starting to join the mobile Internet party.

For this Telecom Council meeting, you get to touch and try some demo cars after we address the intersection of cars, devices, apps, and communications. We are looking for speakers to talk about telematics, cloud services, apps for cars, contextual calling features, safety, entertainment, connectivity, remote management, and more. Some of the open questions automakers and carriers have to answer include:
Who owns / charges for cloud services to the car, including traffic, emergency, hazardous and disaster information?
How should cars connect - embedded or docked?
Can connectivity make cars safer?
What's next for navigation devices and services?
What to do with all the data?
The role of the EV and its connection to the smart home.
Info-tainment: radio, streaming music, video on demand and gaming
New business models and subsidized connections

The Telecom Council's Mobile Forum gathers 75+ wireless executives every 8-10 weeks to discuss topics pushing the envelope of innovation for mobile. These meetings are 1/2 day executive format meetings with plenty of networking time, presentations, panels, and startup presentation which offer wireless carriers, vendors, startups, and investors a venue to connect, communicate, and collaborate.
