TEKKON KINKREET (2006, Dir. Michael Arias) Film Screening & Panel Discussion. Tekkon Kinkreet was awarded Best Animated Film at the 2008 Japan Academy Award. Based on a 1996 manga by Taiyo Matsumoto and produced by Tokyo-based Studio 4C, it is the first animated film directed and written by Americans, and underscores the transnational character of contemporary anime production.

I think there's something lost in translation… I'm pretty sure it's not the first animated film by americans.

I love the soundtrack to this movie. If you haven't seen it - the entire soundtrack is by Plaid.
