Emmy Award winning actor and environmental activist Ted Danson, perhaps best known for his role as Sam Malone in “Cheers, ” will discuss his journey from joining a local protest as a teen to founding the world’s largest environmental group focused on ocean preservation. He will identify the major threats to ocean ecosystems and share ways individuals can participate in the effort to stop the destruction.

Danson is the founder of American Oceans Campaign, currently known as Oceana, which works to rehabilitate the world’s oceans back to their “healthy and abundant state.” Oceana organizes events to educate the public on the importance of ocean ecosystems to our economic and ecologic health. In this capacity, Danson has testified before Congress on environmental and energy policies, including the moratorium on off-shore drilling. Since BP’s Deep Horizon spill, Danson has emerged as one of the most visible critiques of the oil industry.
