Luc Tuymans: Peter Fuller Memorial Lecture 2006
Wednesday 31 May 2006
18.30?20.00
This year's Peter Fuller Memorial Lecture is given by Luc Tuymans, who is considered one of the most significant and influential painters working today. Encompassing a range of styles, Tuymans is a leading artist in the new generation of figurative painters who have continued to use the medium during a period when many believed that it had lost its relevance. His subjects range from major international events, including the Holocaust and postcolonial Congo, to seemingly inconsequential and banal everyday objects, such as wallpaper patterns and Christmas decorations. Deliberately defying categorisation, Tuymans's work exists as a vast repository of data ? drawn from photography, television and film ? and continues to enthrall audiences and critics alike.
