"Tartuffe"By Jean Baptiste Moliere A French classic that shines a remarkable reflection on our modern times, Moliere's most successful comedy "Tartuffe" (first performed in 1664) still holds up with its satirical attacks on religious and social hypocrisy. Tartuffe, a con artist who passes himself off as a holy man and wins the good graces of wealthy Orgon. Tartuffe is welcomed into Orgon's home and offered his daughter's hand in marriage. Some in the household realize Tartuffe is a pious imposter as he attempts to woo Orgon's daughter and wife. The question is, can Tartuffe be exposed before he cons the family into giving over their fortune and dignity?
