Tango Nuevo Cabaret May 30, 2009

Producer/Artistic Director/Choreographer Sergei Tumas is proud to present the Tango Nuevo Cabaret stage extravaganza, which exhibits the avant-garde tango music of legendary Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla.

The show will feature exciting French-style cabaret dancers and world-renowned Argentine tango dancers performing to a modern symphony orchestra directed by Argentine Composer/Arranger Walter Rios. The Buenos Aires Octet will include some of the original musicians of the late Astor Piazzolla’s band and for the first time will be joined by the world famous Cadence Ensemble lead by Armen Babakanian. The show is proud to present the vocal performances of mezzo-soprano Julia Migenes and the exquisite Mariel Dupetit singing Piazzolla’s tangos.

Tango Nuevo Cabaret will perform up to four shows at the beautiful Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 8pm, May 29-30, 2009 with a world tour to follow.

During the summer of 2008 Maestro Tumas performed along with his tango company to the music of Astor Piazzolla in collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and pop star, Chris Isaak, for two nights at the Hollywood Bowl. In August, 2008 Tumas performed in the nationally televised Fiesta Argentina 2008 at the Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles to a sold out audience. In 2006 Maestro Tumas toured as part of the soloist tango couple for Julio Iglesias’ world tour. In addition to his stage work, he has choreographed numerous commercials, Hollywood films and TV dance shows including Dancing with the Stars.

In the spirit of community and citizenship, a portion of the proceeds from the Tango Nuevo Cabaret shows will be donated to Gary’s Place for Kids, a non-profit community organization that provides ongoing grief support for children and their families who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
