Philippe R. Scholtes - UNIDO Representative in India, and Regional Representative, South Asia.

Philippe R. Scholtes, a national of Belgium, has been the Representative to India as well as the South Asia Regional Representative of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) since 2006. In this capacity, he has formulated the Country Programme for India 2008-2012, which focuses on raising industrial competitiveness and helping industry meet the challenge of climate change.

Mr. Scholtes began his career with UNIDO in 1988, serving first at Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire. Later, from 1989 to 2002, as Industrial Development Officer at UNIDO headquarters in Vienna, he was responsible for industrial policy-related projects in Africa and Asia and worked in over 30 countries to implement technical assistance programmes to help governments promote sustainable industrial development. Prior to taking up his current position, Mr. Scholtes was UNIDO Representative in Viet Nam (2003-2006).

Before joining UNIDO, he was a Lecturer in Economics at the Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi, 1984-1986. Mr. Scholtes is the author of a number of articles.
