Talk - Birds and Planes : The Struggle for Co-Existence. Our discovery of the fascinating world of nature continues this month by exploring its coexistence with humans and their products of modern times. In particular, the concurrence of birds and airplanes is looked into. About the Expert : R. Vijay Kumar is manager, Airside Operations at the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Shamshabad, Hyderabad . During his 22 years of experience in managing airside at various airports across India , Kumar has observed and studied solutions to enhance the coexistence of these two protagonists of the sky. This Expert's Talk will be covering how man's yearning for authority of the skies leads to an ecological imbalance where birds are constantly being threatened to move away from flight paths to make way for bigger and bigger airplanes. The skies which are the natural habitat of birds are perceived to be intruded by aircraft. This is where environmental friendly airports like GMR Airport Shamshabad have taken initiative in bringing about measures for peaceful co-existence of our feathered friends with the flying machines. The lecture with slide show will also be showcasing various aircraft accidents associated with bird hits.
