Talk and Discussion - Latest Tendencies In European Design. On the occasion of the design exhibition Somewhat different at Lalit Kala Academy in May, the curator and designer Prof. Volker Albus will give a talk on the concept of the exhibition and on latest tendencies in German and European design. The exhibition Somewhat different is not dedicated, as usual, to the function of design objects and their corresponding shapes, but rather concentrates on divergences from the design standards set by habit and convention. Albus will focus in his talk on the fundamental change in the actual design scene, in which the basic attitude to supposed fixations in the material world is reviewed and design objects become 'somewhat different': a bookshelf that wobbles or caves in, a soft washbasin, rugs with holes Albus will focus primarily on the innovations within the German Design but also refer on similar tendencies in many more countries. Prof. Volker Albus, born in 1949, began designing furniture and interiors after some years working as a freelance architect, he quickly became one of the most important protagonists of new German design. Albus curates exhibitions, works as a publicist and since 1994, he has been a professor for product design at the University for Design in Karlsruhe.
