Anaphora presents Synesthetic Sounds on Wednesday, December 9th at 7PM in Curtiss Hall (410 S. Michigan Ave, 10th Floor, Chicago). Anaphora will showcase works by local composers Kirsten Broberg, Marcos Balter, Kyong Mee Choi and will heighten the performance experience with a visual display triggering all five senses. General admission is $5.

Synesthetic Sounds features the WORLD PREMIERE of two new works commissioned by Anaphora. Anaphora will also present Composer/Painter Choi’s “Reflective Layers.” Working with the composers on space design, Anaphora's Composer-in-Residence, Sarah J. Ritch, will use angular patterns and props to accentuate the concert hall, taking design cues from the music. Upon entering Curtiss Hall, expect to walk through a textural, visual and gradually changing display.

Kyong Mee Choi's “Reflective Layers” directly refers to concepts of visual art:
“This piece consists of three layers that are represented as reality, chaos and intuition. Each layer parallels art technique. The first layer is composed of the randomly chosen pure colors without a specific form or order, based on a collage technique. The second layer covers the first layer with a black color while hiding the other colors, making it possible for the third layer to have a scraffito effect.” -Kyong Mee Choi

Marcos Balter: “Uptown” for Winds, Strings, Harp, Percussion, Piano (WORLD PREMIERE);
