About Christian Ehwald
Prof. Christian Ehwald was born in Eberswalde.He began taking piano lessons at the age of six. From 1973-78 hestudied conducting at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin underProf. Horst F?rster and at the Leningrad Conservatoire under Prof.Arvid Jansen and Prof. Mariss Jansons. In 1979 he was awarded thirdprize in the 6th Herbert von Karajan conducting competition. From1981-88 Christian Ehwald was chief conductor of the Jena Philharmonic.His first appearance as guest conductor with the Leipzig GewandhausOrchestra in 1982 led to many more concerts with this orchestra. In1982 Christian Ehwald gave concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic. Hehas appeared as guest conductor at the State Opera in Berlin since 1984, and concert tours with the Staatskapelle have taken him to England, Australia and New Zealand.From 1988-89 he worked as a freelance conductor. Among the orchestrashe conducted were the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Dresden Philharmonic,the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Berlin,Bavarian Radio and West German Radio, the Petersburg Philharmonic andmany other European, American and Japanese orchestras. From 1998 - 2003Christian Ehwald was general music director at the theatre in Magdeburg and chief conductor of the Magdeburg Philharmonic. In 1999he gave a masterclass at the Dresden Academy of Music. Christian Ehwaldwas appointed Professor of Conducting (Academy Symphony Orchestra) atthe Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin from the winter semester 2002/2003.

About The Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra
TheShenzhen Symphony Orchestra was set up in 1982. It got great success inits debut of the Yellow River Cantata and Beethoven's Symphony No.5 in1985. Now it is a fully established orchestra that rehearsed more than80 symphonies and 100 and more Chinese and foreign outstanding musicworks.

Since 1987, the Orchestra has visited and performed in Hongkong, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Hubei with widespread acclaim. As soon as it appeared at the Symphony in Spring Concert in Guangdong Provinceand the 5th Ram City Music and Flowers Fair, it received favorablecomment from the audience. The Orchestra also participated in the 4thChina Art Festival at Lanzhou in 1994 and preformed Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven at Shenzhen in 1995.
