The Willowbrook Ballroom will host a swing dancing evening with the Outcast Jazz Band from 7:30 p.m. - midnight, Saturday, Dec 22. Swing lessons are provided from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., and open dancing follows.

Founded by the late Gilbert “Smokey” Robinson, the original Outcast Jazz Band consisted of ten kids ranging in age from 13 to 17. Put together to entertain the St. Margaret of Scotland Summer Day Camp, the Outcasts began their impressive career on Aug. 19, 1981. They concentrated on the classic big band sounds of the 30s, 40s and 50s – a sound they still replicate today.

The band is now 17 members strong, including five saxophones, four trombones, four trumpets, a full rhythm section, and several vocalists.

Since that fateful summer so long ago, they have been swingin' through some of the most prestigious ballrooms and events in the Chicagoland Area.

Admission is $12 or $10 with a student ID, and parking is free. Dancers are encouraged to attend in vintage attire. No jeans or gym shoes please.

Founded in 1921, the Willowbrook Ballroom offers a 6,000 square-foot maple-sprung dance floor. The Willowbrook Ballroom proudly bears the distinction of being one of only five ballrooms of its magnitude remaining in the United States. Singles and couples of all ages are invited.
