Dark, nightmarish and thrilling, Christopher Bond’s play (that Sondheim’s musical is based on) follows the barber, Sweeney Todd, as he plots his bloody revenge against the judge who betrayed and deported him on false charges. With the death of his wife, Sweeney takes revenge upon the corrupt society of Victorian London by dispatching his victims with a grisly slit to the throat in his barber chair. His landlady, Mrs. Lovett, hides the barber’s crimes with tasty meat pies. A tale of obsession,and a man driven to madness by injustice.
