Swedish crystal has long been synonymous with quality, refinement and innovation. The abundant forests of Sweden provided the raw elements -- wood, fire and water -- for a growing glass industry. Glass making came to Sweden over four hundred years ago, with many of the existing factories being established in the 18th and 19th centuries. Kosta, founded in 1742, is the oldest surviving glassworks. Orrefors, the most recognizable name, was not founded until 1898. Among those represented in this collection are: Kosta, Orrefors, Boda, Afors, Aseda, Bjorkshult, Eneryda, Johansfors, Limmared, Lindshammar, Maleras, Skruf, Pukeberg, Reijimyre, Sandviks and Strombergshyttan.
