Million Fishes Gallery presents
Resident Artist Group Show
Million Fishes is a Mission District-based live/work collective & gallery composed of a diverse group of artists dedicated to collaborative, creative exploration. For the bi-annual group show, resident artist's work will demonstrate the process of Swarm Intelligence. Swarm Intelligence systems are typically made up of a population of simple agents or boids interacting locally with one another and with their environment. The agents follow very simple rules, and although there is no centralized control structure dictating how individual agents should behave, local, and to a certain degree random, interactions between such agents lead to the emergence of "intelligent" global behavior, unknown to the individual agents. Natural examples of SI including ant colonies, bird flocking, animal herding, bacterial growth, and fish schooling.
Founded in 2003 on the principle of co-creativity, our studios and venue serve as a platform for artistic cooperation as well as an interactive resource for the public. Our organization has grown to also suit the needs of many distinct creative endeavors, from productions and events to ongoing programs and services. Through presenting and making accessible emerging artwork from both the collective and outside artists, Million Fishes is a resource to local communities in the Mission District and the extended communities of our resident artists. Programs include innovative gallery exhibitions, an artists-in-residence program for 15 artists from a variety of backgrounds, and classes and workshops open to the community.
