Topic: Apache Hadoop: Petabytes and Terawatts: Overview of Hadoop, its history, how it works and its ecosystem.

Abstract: Apache Hadoop has become the standard for processing previously unimaginable amounts of data on cheap, accessible hardware. This survey will cover what Hadoop is, how it works, the plethora of projects that have grown up around it, and how you can get involved.

Bio: Jakob Homan is a software engineer with LinkedIn's SNA team, developing and extending Apache Hadoop and its ecosystem. Currently he is focusing on Apache Giraph, a fault-tolerant in-memory distributed BSP graph processing system which runs on top of a standard Hadoop installation. He is a committer and PMC member for the Apache Hadoop and Apache Giraph projects.
