Since joining Canaan in 1999, Brent has led successful investments in novel companies such as Cerexa (FRX), one of the largest private biotech M&As in history; DexCom (DXCM), a pioneer in sensor technologies that wirelessly transmit glucose readings to patients and their doctors; Peninsula Pharmaceuticals, developer of antibiotic medications to treat life-threatening infections (JNJ), acquired by a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary; Revivant, a cutting edge medical device company acquired by ZOLL, and Calixa, which develops hospital-based antibiotics to treat infections resulting from resistant strains of bacteria, acquired by Cubist (CBST). Terry Church has more than 25 years’ experience helping a broad spectrum of business and technology clients address and manage their complex licensing and commercial transactions. Terry is the Vice Chair of the firm’s Business & Technology Group and serves as a legal advisor to technology and non-technology clients, ranging from emerging growth to mature companies. He works with clients in securing and protecting trademark, copyright and trade secret intellectual property rights. He is experienced in structuring, negotiating and drafting strategic partner agreements and technology licensing agreements for both semiconductor and software sectors. He also advises clients regarding channel strategy, distributor agreements and purchase and supply contracts. In addition, Terry supports clients’ corporate compliance needs and franchise relationships. Prior to joining Morgan Miller Blair, Terry was Of Counsel at Silicon Valley Law Group. He also has worked as a senior legal executive at PeopleSoft, Cisco Systems, British Gas and LSI Logic, as a litigation attorney with Cooley Godward and managed litigation for McKesson Corporation.
