Tenor saxophonist & clarinetist Anat Cohen is one of the most in-demand musicians in New York City and is rapidly becoming a major force on the global world music and jazz scenes. Originally from Tel Aviv, Anat has performed around the world sharing her astounding musicianship. Aside from her extraordinary instrumental abilities on soprano and tenor saxes and clarinet, she has a natural ability to absorb the music of different cultures, process it and interpret it with her own special take. As a bandleader Anat has played in some of the most prestigious jazz clubs and concert halls in the world including Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Standard and Sweet Rhythm. She comes to Yoshi’s in support of her latest CD Poetica on Anzic Records, which features old Israeli songs and a contemporary Israeli song, a ballad by Brazilian songwriter Nelson Cavaquinho, a Jacques Brel chanson, John Coltrane's "Lonnie's Lament," two of her own originals and one by Avital.
