The mean streets of Chicago show us their brighter side when Arthur, a world-weary draft evader and disillusioned donut shop proprietor, hires Franco, a streetwise would-be novelist. Their unlikely bond and hopes for the future are put to a violent test when Franco's past catches up to him.
