If you're a geek, you've probably been to an unconference before, or at least heard of them. Maybe you've heard of, or even attended, BarCamp or one of the other "camps" that it spawned over the years, or been to a "Speed Geeking" session or a PechaKucha night.

All of these event formats are an attempt to break away from the old way of staging a conference where a bunch of experts stand in front of the room with their slides and drone on for 45 minutes. Even when the chosen speakers are brilliant and engaging, the problem with this format is that very often, everyone in the audience is ALSO an expert.

If you've been around your industry for a while, you know all the 101 stuff. You might even know all the 201 stuff. What you need is to have a post-doc level discussion about the real problems that actually face you.

Most members of the Bay Area Consultants Network (BACN) are senior consultants, and many of them have been coming to BACN for years. They've already heard the presentations on marketing, sales, publishing, networking, speaking, negotiation, contracts, client relationships, social media, because we've been offering programs on those things for years.

We asked them what they wanted instead, and it came down to a chance to learn more from each other about high-level consulting. So at this month's BACN meeting, YOU choose the topics. Each table operates independently. You can ask any question you want, because our members are experts on everything from HR to IT, sales and marketing to accounting, psychology to social media. The time keeper will check in frequent intervals. You decide whether to continue on this topic or move on to the next.

If you're an old hand at unconferences, come along and bring your expertise to share. This crowd welcomes people with technical expertise. BACN members freely share their own experience in other areas of business with each other. Expect to have a great time and meet some fantastic people.
