Sukkot Family Celebration September 26, 2010

Celebrate the Jewish harvest holiday of Sukkot with a picnic in the Skirball's family amphitheater and arroyo garden!

Enjoy Israeli folk dancing and live guitar music, make a corn-husk doll to take home, and delight in the traditional harvest season with the South Central Farmers, an organic farming cooperative that will provide fresh veggies to attendees. Visit the Skirball's sukkah, designed this year by the internationally renowned Los Angeles firm wHY Architecture using repurposed materials. The sukkah, on view through September 29 in the arroyo garden adjacent to Noah's Ark, celebrates the themes of community, harvest, and shelter. In keeping with the Jewish tradition of ushpizin—welcoming biblical ancestors to be our guests inside the sukkah—you are invited to bring photos of your own relatives to decorate the Skirball's sukkah. (Photos will not be returned, so please bring copies only.)

Bring your own picnic dinner and a blanket—and create some great family memories. Beverages and extra goodies will be provided by the Skirball. Please note that meals/dinner items will not be available for purchase.
