Sugarloaf Crafts Festival, the well known and popular marketplace of contemporary crafts and fine art, will return to the Philadelphia area with a new show in 2009, announced Sugarloaf President Deann Verdier. The festival will be held Friday, March 20 through Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, PA.
The Sugarloaf Crafts Festival in Philadelphia will feature more than 300 artisans displaying and selling unique creations in functional and decorative pottery, sculpture, glass, jewelry, fashion, home décor, furniture and home accessories, items for the garden, and photography. Additionally, visitors can see demonstrations of wheel thrown pottery, stone carving, metal spinning and paper making by professional craftspeople. Live music and activities for children will enhance the festival atmosphere. Specialty gourmet foods will be available to sample and purchase.
Sugarloaf Crafts Festivals had been a staple of the Philadelphia craft community for more than a decade at the Fort Washington Expo Center before taking a three-year hiatus and returning this March.
“The Philadelphia area has a strong community of sophisticated craftspeople and enthusiasts, making it a great location for the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival,” said president Deann Verdier. “Putting our show in the new center in Oaks will create a fun experience for visitors and unique destination for the region’s lovers of fine crafts and art.”
Each year, Sugarloaf Craft Festivals attract more than 250,000 people and are consistently ranked by craft industry publications among the top fine arts and crafts festivals in the country. Sugarloaf artists’ work is found in the nation’s finest galleries and museum shows, featured in prestigious collections, and profiled in high fashion magazines and glossy art publications. In 2009, Sugarloaf Crafts Festivals will host 15 shows throughout the northeast.
