Earlier this year peace returned to Southern Sudan after more than 30 years of civil war. Now millions of refugees and internally displaced persons are eager to return to their homes. The challenges awaiting them are daunting.

In towns and villages abandoned for decades, infrastructure has been decimated by war and neglect. Returnees will have no schools, homes, or markets. Roads are in poor condition and often impassable. Access to potable water will be a major challenge. Yet these resilient people are excited to reclaim their land and livelihoods, and you have the opportunity to help.

On SATURDAY, AUGUST 27 the Nyepo Development Organization will hold a fundraiser at the Wonderland Bar and Grill. The organization's members, who have been re-settled across the United States, in Europe, and in Africa, hope to contribute to the development of the villages they left behind, and to assist their families and neighbors. In particular this group is working to improve conditions near the city of Juba, where its members originate.
The fundraiser will take place from 7:30-10:00 PM, Saturday August 27. The Wonderland is located at 1101 Kenyon St. NW, a few blocks from the Columbia Heights metro, and close to several major bus lines. The event will take place on the second floor.
There is a suggested donation of $10, but you are under no obligation to give. The Wonderland has a great beer selection, and the second floor is smoke free! So join us to learn more about Sudan and to listen to some great African music.

A raffle will be conducted, and we have over $500 in prizes!!
Please forward this invitation on to any persons or groups that may be interested.
