Organizational collaborations will be discussed at New Haven Public Library April 19

Mike Burns, partner in BWB Solutions of Washington D.C. and Branford, will discuss When All Else Is Crumbling Around You...TWO May Be Better Than ONE, at The New Haven Public Library, 133 Elm St., on Thursday, April 16. This is one of the librarys Subway Supper Seminars, a monthly series of professional development workshops designed for staff and boards of regional community organizations.

Burns seminar will focus on achieving survival through new and expanded organizational relationships. Three types of relationships will be examined: a joint project, a partnership, and a merger, with an eye toward determining what types of organizational relationships have the best chance of working. A closing exercise may enable some participants to take the first step in inter-organizational collaboration.

Mike Burns is a partner in the firm of Brody & Weise, which works to improve the capacity of organizations to solve their own problems. Until 1994, Mike was the Executive Director of DATA (Development and Technical Assistance Research and Resource Center) based in New Haven. He has written and edited several books on nonprofit management and fundraising, and maintains a blog at www.nonprofitboardcrisis.typepad.com.

Each Subway Supper Seminar starts with a Development Roundtable (4:30-5pm) for resource review, networking and Subway sandwiches, to be followed by the seminar at 5-6:30pm. Thanks to funding by a grant from the Frederick A DeLuca Foundation and Subway Restaurants, there is no charge, but registration is required at www.aprilsubway.eventbrite.com or by calling the library at 946-8835.

The Subway Supper Seminar series is planned to run throughout 2009, on the third Thursday of the month, at the Main Library, 133 Elm St. Free parking is available.
