Striptease: The Untold History Of The Girlie Show

Rachel will cover everything from the early days of stripping with

"The British Blondes" and Gypsy Rose Lee to the urban revival of burlesque today. At the heart of every contemporary conversation about it is a conversation about women's sexuality and what their sexuality means and whether it is possible for women to develop a sexuality that is not connected to male ideas of it.

RACHEL SHTEIR has published in magazines and newspapers including the New York Times, the Guardian, Playboy, American Theatre, the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Magazine, the Chicago Tribune, New York Newsday, Slate, the late Lingua Franca, and the Nation. Her first book, Striptease: the Untold
History of the Girlie Show was published by xford University Press in 2004.
