Strings of the Symphony Orchestra of India

FREE ADMITTANCE

The Symphony Orchestra of India is the first fully professional symphony orchestra created India offering a series of concerts initially for two seasons in September and February each year. On successful completion of the first year, the orchestra on the advice of its Music Director, Marat Bisengaliev, plans to avail of offers for recordings from international labels and plans to tour India and the far East to start accompanying soloists, ballets and operas.

The orchestra consists of 65 musicians at full strength of which the core group consists of 11 Indian musicians who have been carefully chosen by Marat Bisengaliev and trained by a group of International teachers resident in Mumbai. The Orchestra is being coached by their resident conductor Zane Dalal.

Zane Dalal was born and educated in England. Awarded an Organ Scholarship to the University of Oxford, he held the position of Choirmaster and Organist at Oriel College Chapel. He holds Masters degrees in Music from both the University of Oxford, U.K and from Indiana University at Bloomington.

Zane has had much experience conducting various orchestral and operatic repertoire. He has conducted the American Youth Symphony in Los Angeles, Utah Symphony Orchestra, Florida Philharmonic, Chicago Civic Orchestra and many more. In 1995 Zane competed in the prestigious 'First Leonard Bernstein Jerusalem International Conductors Competition'. Of a starting field of two hundred and thirty-three, he was one of seventeen international candidates invited to conduct in Jerusalem. Zane has also attended rehearsals and coaching at the Bayreuther Festspiele, under the auspices of Maestro Daniel Barenboïm and Wolfgang Wagner.
