Streetart On Hiv/aids December 5, 2007

BACKGROUND
There is no limit to which Red Location Museum would not go to draw in the public to participate in its programmes and exhibitions. This is indeed a Museum belonging to the Metro Citizens – who need to come and take ownership.

Fondly dubbed by local residents as the "People's Museum", Red Location Museum launched just over one year ago. The surrounding community proudly refers to this place as a “Symbol of our Freedom”.

"NoNameFever-uGwulayo" Exhibition:
In preparation for the launch of the "NoNameFever -uGawulayo" exhibition, the Museum is embarking on a series of outstanding linked public programmes.

The original Swedish “NoNameFever Exhibition” has sparked international interest and praise for its intensive reflection on the worldwide HIV/AIDS pandemic. Reference: http://www.varldskulturmuseet.se/smvk/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=863&a=4078&l=en_US

A section of this exhibition has since then traveled down to Red Location Museum - to be shown with a selection of local content.

The newly curated exhibition will appear under the banner of "NoNameFever -uGawulayo" and will be launched at Red Location Museum on 14 December 2007 at noon. From there it will be on show till the end of November 2008.

STREETART
The Museum is planning to have a streetart event on 8 December 2008, which would be done in pastels and on portable boards in Olof Palme Street vicinity (which runs parallel to its main entrance).

Streetart is a term referring to art being done on a street surface and can include traditional graffiti artwork, stencil graffiti, sticker art, wheat-pasting, street poster art, video projection, art intervention, and street installations. The streetart at Red Location Museum will be done in pastels.

Local artists have been invited to assist with the streetart exercise. The theme would be around HIV/AIDS.

This is an opportunity for the public at large to participate and express their feelings and experiences through this unique HIV/AIDS installation.

The streetart event will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

On completion, the streetart boards are to be installed inside the Museum, on a path winding through the Museum's gigantic memory boxes and connecting further beyond to the "NoNameFever-uGawulayo" exhibition venue. (Going on show from 14 December 2007)

OTHER PUBLIC PROGRAMMES
Other public programmes which would be linked to the "NoNameFever-uGawulayo" Exhibition, are on:

- 1 December: Live Broadcast of the "46664 Concert" from - 7:00 pm on the Museum's giant external and big internal screens.
- 6 December: A debate with the Youth through Hope Worldwide in the Museum's Auditorium during the day (all interested youth are most welcome to attend!)
- 14 December: "NoNameFever-uGawulayo" Exhibition - The main event of the Month!
- 16 December: Fashion Show on HIV/AIDS on the Museum's pergola-ed porch. The show organized by local fashion designers, is intended to run during the mid-morning/afternoon session.
- 17 December: Alternative Poetry (rapping) at the Museum's outside arena which has capacity to seat an audience of 7 000. This is an opportunity for the youth to make their day and rap at the Museum!
