Whereas planning and budgeting have been around for a long time, risk management and performance management are more recent additions to the corporate tool set. Research by Bernard Marr at Cranfield School of Management shows that the majority of organisations both in the UK and in the US have embraced these tools; however, few have delivered outstanding results. One of the reasons for this is that they are often implemented as stand alone solutions and rarely brought together, which means organisations fail to create an integrated view of performance. It seems wrong that organisations develop key performance indicators separated from their planning processes and then design risk indicators which again are not linked to either of the above. However, this is what is happening n so many organisations across the UK. Recent developments in approaches and an evolution in software solutions enable organisations to bring all of this together. This conference will enable participants to draw up a plan forwards toward true strategic performance management.
