Griffin Theatre Company presents
Strange Attractor
By SUE SMITH
From Monday 25 November
Six Performances Only!
Be transported into Western Australia’s mining country, against the blood-red landscape of the Pilbara, where a cyclone has wreaked havoc in a remote railway construction camp.

From celebrated writer of Bastard Boys and Brides of Christ, Sue Smith comes Strange Attractor, a gripping, contemporary tale of free-will and responsibility in the face of great temptation. Strange Attractor is playing from Monday November 25 to Saturday November 28 at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta.

Strange Attractor tells the story of a small team of employees anxiously awaiting the arrival of “the company man”, sent up from Perth to do his own investigation before a coronial inquiry. Dog-tired and in search of drink, they do their best to distract themselves, coming together in a makeshift mess hall. It is during a stormy evening of shared memories that the audience shares a strange and unexpected turn.

With explosive characters and a wily sense of humour, Strange Attractor is a stunning portrait of small team camaraderie at the furthest frontier of the mining boom. It explores the working culture of the Western Australian mining industry and five dream-chasers at the heart of it as they struggle to cope with splintered lives and the choices they’ve made in search of a dollar.

Strange Attractor has a sensational cast including Blazey Best (Troupers), Ivan Donato (The Jungle), Darren Gilshenan (Elling), Peter Kowitz (Blackbird), Josh McConville (The Call) and Sandy Winton (Stuff Happens) and is directed by Griffin’s Artistic Director Nick Marchand.

Sue Smith is one of Australia’s most celebrated and prolific writers. Smith’s credits include the successful TV hits Bastard Boys and Brides of Christ. Smith’s first stage play, Thrall, was produced by Tamarama Rock Surfers at the Old Fitzroy Theatre in July 2006. Smith’s other credits include the feature film Peaches, the SBS miniseries RAN, which Smith co-wrote with John Alsop and Alice Addison, the ABC miniseries Bordertown, the multi award winning mini series The Leaving of Liverpool, telemovies Temptation, The Road from Coorain and the adaptation of My Brother Jack in partnership with John Aslop.

“Sue Smith’s script is a reminder of the sheer power of intelligent character-driven drama”.
