Learn about the power of Northwest weather and the impact of the 1962 Columbus Day Storm on Pittock Mansion and Portland during our first annual Storm Day event on Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This all-ages event will feature the power of Northwest weather with tips from the Red Cross for storm preparation and OMSI-led, weather-related activities and demos including a small tornado chamber; a weather balloon; a Van de Graaff generator to create static electricity and lightning; and hands-on projects such as creating a wind vane and a rain gauge.
