Join us on November 6, 2010 at 6:30pm for dinner and learn how Five Talents is bringing hope to people living in some of the most remote and risky areas of the world. Five Talents provides access to microcredit programs, business skills training and spiritual development, because a primary reason for a rural family’s inability to escape poverty is their lack of access to financial resources.

In December 2004, the devastating tsunami that hit Southeast Asia did not spare the rural fishing villages of South India. Within minutes of the waves crashing to shore, livelihoods were destroyed and hopes smashed. No more boats, no more nets, no way to make a living.

However, despite being haunted by memories of the catastrophe, it was unthinkable for the villagers to leave – these rural villages and ocean shores had been home for generations. In response to this tragedy, Five Talents started a Self-Help Group program and within a year more than 500 women had access to training and loans as small as $33 to start new businesses! This was nearly five years ago and is just one example of Five Talents’ work worldwide!

Today, there are more than 3,400 women in this program. By empowering these women, children are now attending school, husbands are encouraged and communities have been transformed in ways never imagined before the tsunami!
