Clissold Park
Hackney, England

Stokefest is a free independent arts festival that takes place every year in Hackney’s Clissold Park, on the border of Haringey and Islington.

Stokefest 2008 will take place on Sunday 8 June from 12-8PM.

Since 2003, Stokefest has continued the legacy of the 11-year running Stoke Newington Midsummer Festival.

Attracting between 20 and 30,000 people over the course of the day, the festival engages over 250 artists, 40 different community organisations, and 90 craft, trade and catering stalls.

Stokefest is organised by Open Source Productions Ltd, a voluntary, not for profit organisation established in 2002 with the initial charge of continuing the annual festival and community arts legacy started by Stoke Newington Midsummer Festival.

Got there mid-afternoon to discover that it was so rammed that no-one else was being let in. Probably because they were only using a fraction of the park this time.

Took some GVs of the crowd outside and decided that another mooch around Abney Park cemetery was a much better bet.

According to the police person I spoke to the limit was 15K.
