Juno Award winner Steve Dawson has been playing and recording professionally since he was 15 years old. He has toured extensively in North America and Europe both as a frontman and sideman for various groups. His instrumental abilities have allowed him to share the stage with internationally-known musicians such as Bob Brozman, John Lee Hooker, Chris Whitley, Kelly Joe Phelps, and many others.

Steve spent two years at Boston's Berklee College of Music where he immersed himself in many styles of music. Upon returning to Vancouver, he has worked solidly as a session musician (playing on over 30 albums in the last few years) and a live performer, fronting his own groups Zubot and Dawson and The Spirit Merchants. Steve also produces, records and writes music for film and TV. He has contribued scores and music for several shows (The Chris Isaac Show, CBC?s These Arms of Mine, several Knowledge Network documentaries and music for Comedy Central's Ed, Edd and Eddy) and film (Rupert's Land, Fishing With John, Marine Life). He recently contributed the slide guitar to Kelly Joe Phelps? latest album ?Slingshot Professionals?. He has performed and recorded with artists such as Eugene Chadbourne, Oregon, Chris Tarry, Veda Hille, Linda McRae and many others. His music is also regularly featured on several national CBC radio shows.

Steve has won 5 West Coast Music Awards and 2 Canadian Independent Music Awards (as a soloist and with Zubot and Dawson), and is also part of the chamber jazz/roots group The Great Uncles of the Revolution. His original music, which is a mix of modern and traditonal styles has taken him around the world, performing on national TV, and major concerts and festivals such as Slovakia?s ?Dobrofest?, the New York Guitar Festival, Seattle's Jimi Hendrix Guitar Festival, Guitar Mania in Calgary, and many folk and jazz festivals around North America and Europe. His first slide guitar instructional book ?Getting into Slide Guitar? will be released by Mel Bay in January 2004.

His unique playing style, specializing in slide guitar and lap-style steel and slide has earned him countless sessions for albums ranging from folk, Hawaiian and blues to pop and hip-hop. As a solo performer accompanying himself on fingerstyle guitar or lap-slide (Weissenborn) guitar, Steve?s original compositions and songs are diverse, eclectic and draw from his extensive well of influences. His debut solo CD, 2001's "Bug Parade" is a collection of instrumental and vocal tunes, including some traditional blues and Hawaiian pieces done in his own unique style.
