Ripley Music present State of the Union in the Rose Theatre. Boo Hewerdine & Brooks Williams perform a raw mix of English pop and American acoustic Slide guitar. Plus support from David Hirst.

Tickets £14 / £12 concessions / £5 Edge Hill students

Boo Hewerdine is an English songwriter and lead singer of
indie legends The Bible. Brooks Williams
is a slide guitar wizard from Statsboro, Georgia, USA.

Boo has had his songs recorded by such artists as Eddi Reader, k.d. Lang, Jerry
Douglas, Kris Drever, Heidi Talbot (more than 400 of his songs have been
recorded). Over the course of 17 albums
Williams has secured a peerless reputation as a songwriter as well as being
recognised as one of the world's best guitarists.

The
pair found that they had a natural writing chemistry, and material came in abundance, for their new
album, due out March 2013.

Watch the new video to their cover of Petshop Boys "Rent" (released as a single in Autumn 2012) and you will hear perfectly what an exciting mix raw American acoustic slide guitar and English literate pop can achieve.

Support from David Hirst

Hailing from the North West, singer/songwriter David Hirst captivates from the moment you first experience his ethereal mix of traditional English folk, exquisite acoustic guitar playing, sensitive vocals and smart sense of lyric. David's songs have strong powerful storylines woven into his addictive melancholic melodies.

A recent write-up in The Manc Review likened him to Chris Isaak, Roddy Frame, and Gotye, though Hirst counts folk revivalists Martin Carthy, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention; British songwriters John Martyn, Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, Donovan, Laura Marling; and American songwriters Neil Young, Paul Simon, Bonny Prince Billy and Bill Callaghan among his influences.
