10th Annual Mardi Gras Ball--features San Antonio’s only indoor Mardi Gras Parade
The 9th Annual Mardi Gras Ball, sponsored by the Stardust Club, will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 6:30-12:00 p.m. at Oak Hills Country Club. The fantastic event is a themed, extravagantly decorated, dinner / dance featuring San Antonio’s only indoor Mardi Gras Parade, complete with Kings, Krewes, dancers, and musicians. The Stardust Club was officially approved as an IRS 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to charitable and educational purposes in December 2000.
The Mardi Gras Kings—Stars of the Show
The Mardi Gras Kings are local community leaders who are selected and invited to participate in the fund raising activities, by the organization’s members. Kings select the theme for and decorate their float (electric mobility equipment provided by The SCOOTER Store) and select the members of their entourage (Krewe). Each King is a ruler among equals. Again this year, the Kings represent a cross section of the community.
Principal Beneficiary: The Guadalupe Community Center
The principal recipient of Stardust Club funds since IRS approval has been the Guadalupe Community Center (GCC). Located on the near West Side of San Antonio, immediately across from Lanier High School, GCC serves families who are suffering from ill health, lack of education, lack food and clothing, unemployment or underemployment, increase in juvenile crime, teen pregnancy and school drop out, family/domestic violence and illiteracy.
