125 I St
Sacramento, California 95814

This year's parade will feature Irish dancers and costumed marchers, school bands, floats, military regiments, police and fire representatives and other cultural organizations. Tartan clad Highlanders will march to the sound of bagpipes, while Irish dancers in elaborate Celtic costumes will perform, along with historic re-enactors of the Gold Rush and the wildly popular often wacky Ophir Prison Marching Band.

The 6:00 p.m. parade is an alcohol-free, family event that celebrates the diversity and richness of our community. But the parade is more than an ethnic celebration; it is also an event, which is a source of pride and enjoyment for all area residents. Several thousand people line the streets to enjoy the festivities.

The parade is only part of this colorful celebration—the food, music and fun are served up in generous quantity all day with smiling Irish eyes by Old Sacramento merchant s and restaurateurs.

Live Irish music will be provided before and after the 6:00 p.m. parade at the staging area in front of the Delta King riverboat, located at Front and K Streets. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will continue aboard the historic steamboat well into the evening.

I have heard that the American Catholic Church is moving the obervance of St Patricks Day this year from Monday 3/17 to Friday 3/14, because Monday falls within the Holy Week. This year, Easter is unusually ealy, and falls on 3/23. Will this change the schedule for Sacramento's parade?

Drew,

Sacramento is leaving their parade on Monday the 17th. I know other cities, Boston, Philadelphia, etc. are moving theirs up a week.
