The Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind Volunteer Council is hosting its first “Squirrels for Blind Independence” event at the Diamond on Tuesday, July 27. Activities for the event will take place before and during the Richmond Flying Squirrels vs. Redding Phillies game, which starts at 7:05 p.m.

Prior to the game, 20 current VRCBVI students will have the opportunity to meet several Flying Squirrels players. Additionally, former VRCBVI student Kaitlin Gallagher will sing the national anthem, and Commissioner of the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired Ray Hopkins will throw the first pitch. More activities are planned during the game, and attendees will be able to get information about the VRCBVI, including volunteer opportunities.

According to VRCBVI Director Melody Roane, “We’re very excited about this opportunity. It’s a great chance for the Richmond community to support and learn more about our organization and the important work we do, but more importantly, our students will be able to experience the fun and excitement of Flying Squirrels baseball.”

The $6 tickets can be purchased by contacting Melody at (804) 371-3323. A portion of proceeds of each ticket will benefit the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind Volunteer Council.
