Spring Reception: Nowruz -- Young Professionals International Forum April 21, 2009

Join the Young Professionals International Forum (IF) of the World Affairs Council as we explore the symbolism and traditions of Nowruz, a holiday with its roots in Zoroastrianism-the religion of ancient Iran.

Nowruz, celebrated in a large number of countries around the world, marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the New Year. Nazneen Spliedt, President of Zarthoshti Anjuman of Northern California, a non-profit organization serving the Northern California Zoroastrian community, will discuss the significance of Nowruz traditions such as jumping over a bonfire and setting a table with seven items that start with the letter "S" in the Persian alphabet.

The IF reception is a great opportunity to meet people who enjoy learning about and discussing world affairs.
