Event Introduction

The first of its kind to be held in South Africa, the Sports and Events Tourism Exchange will take place in Cape Town from the 27th – 29th July 2011. This “confex” will focus on the world class standard of facilities and services that South Africa has to offer as a host, for all top level international events and the exchange between sports tourism and the events industry. It will also provide a prestigious platform for the marketing of the many products and services related to this niche market, both on a local and international front

The Sports & Events Tourism Exchange will offer a comprehensive International Hosted Buyer programme, funded by the Dept of Trade & Industry and South African Tourism, giving international buyers the opportunity to visit the exhibition and interact with exhibitors through pre-scheduled meetings, conference sessions and networking events. The key objective of the programme is to connect international buyers with local service providers and product owners.

The support of South African Tourism, the dti and the Department of Sports & Recreation South Africa, will strengthen the status of SETE as an event of international standing, securing the position of South Africa as an international sports and events tourism destination. The country will also be placed in a stronger position to demand the right to be seen as a serious contender in bidding and competing for large international events.

The comprehensive and informative Sports & Events Tourism Exchange Conference will run alongside the exhibition on the 27th and 28th July 2011. With a line-up of keynote addresses and educational workshops, the conference will ensure high level networking and incisive debate, covering such topics as “Bidding for and hosting of major international events”, “The promotion of Home-grown events”, “The legacy of FIFA World Cup” and much more. (Conference programme to be confirmed soon)
