New Orleans keyboardist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dr. John joins with gospel music legends the Blind Boys of Alabama in their first-ever joint tour. Under Dr. John’s musical direction, these two icons of American music will trace a legacy that began with Dr. John’s appearance on the Blind Boys’ Grammy® Award-winning album Down in New Orleans, and continues with the Blind Boys’ appearance on Dr. John’s upcoming Louis Armstrong tribute album. Based on the legendary Carnegie Hall Spirituals to Swing concerts produced by John Hammond in the 1930s, Spirituals to Funk explores the connections between jazz, blues, and gospel.
