SPENT
an absurd account of two high powered execs who fall off the corporate ladder

Theatre Smith-Gilmour, one of Toronto’s foremost theatre companies, along with two exciting emerging companies, Why Not Theatre and TheatreRUN, are taking the stage at the Factory Studio Theatre with their new hysterical clown and bouffon inspired show, Spent. Created by Ravi Jain and Adam Paolozza, with direction by Michelle Smith and Dean Gilmour, this fun, physical comedy brings together two generations of Canada’s most exciting physical theatre artists to poke fun at the financial crisis. A show for young and old, rich and poor, it opens at the Factory Studio Theatre Thursday, October 8th and runs through to October 25th, 2009.

On September 26, 2008, two high-powered executives went to sleep with their hopes and dreams tucked safely in the bank. The next morning as the alarm buzzed, they wiped the sleep from their eyes and awoke to find everything gone! Was it a dream or a nightmare? It was a crisis! Now that everyone's been bailed out, scaled down and cut back, watch as these two hapless execs fumble around trying to make sense of the absurd market they’ve crashed landed into. Their debts are high, their options have taken a downturn and they’re Spent!
Ravi and Adam weave us through this intelligent and witty social commentary on the absurdity and greed which has created the financial crisis. Spent is a virtuosic two hander skillfully performed by the two actors on a bare stage and has been hailed as “witty, subversive, “cocasse” (Matthew Jocelyn, Artistic Director Canadian Stage Company) and “a mixture of simplicity and sophistication” (Leah Cherniak, Clown Master, Teacher and Former Artistic Director of Theatre Columbus).

Don’t miss this tour de force team made up of two hot young emerging artists and two seasoned veterans of Canadian theatre who bring you the funniest and most topical show of the season.
